Solano County

At the northeast corner of San Francisco Bay, just north of where the great Inland rivers join the salt of the sea, is the dynamic County of Solano. Solano County Court HouseAfter a quiet start as tiny frontier villages in the 1850's, Solano County has become California's third fastest growing county. However the friendliness, charm., and informality of these former pioneer towns has not been lost with the recent growth.

Building on diverse natural advantages, county development has followed equally diverse lines. At the edge of deep water, Vallejo and Benicia become centers for shipping, warehousing and allied trades. A few miles to the east, over low, windswept hills, upper Solano tilled a fruitful soil, sharing bountiful yields of fruit, nuts, and row crops. As nature's topography influenced the origins of each section, so would it dictate the future growth of each.Rolling Hills

Almost 400,000 people live in Solano County. The county offers major highway accessibility and reasonable commute distances to major job markets and education centers. Not to mention comfortable temperatures year round characterized by dry summers and cool moist winters.

Small enough not to have lost its Old West appeal and neighborhood feel, yet large enough to attract and support such major employers as Travis Air Force Base, Anheuser-Busch, Ball Metal Containers, OEA Technology, Genentech, Lucky Stores Distribution and numerous retail stores.

Solano County is strategically located between San Francisco and Sacramento on Interstate 80. The Sacramento River, San Pablo and Suisun Bay, and the WaterwaysCarquinez Strait are the vital water transportation arteries that surround and serve the county. Solano enjoys outstanding outdoor recreational activities. Fishing and water skiing are excellent in the Delta Waterways of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers and at Lake Berryessa.

A few miles to the west sits neighboring Napa County, home to the world famous wine country. Less than three hours to the East are the play lands, winter and summer, of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains with their abundance of indoor entertainment and outdoor recreation.

After all this, affordable housing seems hardly worth mentioning, but this too is one of Solano's main attractions.

The property tax base is approximately 1.25% of full market value.
